UPPER ELEMENTARY SUMMER READING 2016
Hi! We hope you are having a great summer vacation. We wanted to let you know our choice for summer reading this year.
We have chosen the book, Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, by Eleanor Coerr. As you read the book, please complete the attached book report "information gathering" form. Please use extra lined paper as necessary. Bring in both your book and completed form on Wednesday, August 10, 2016.
We will use these sheets to compile a book report as a group during the first three weeks of school. This report will then be put in your binder and will be used as a "go-by" for future book reports. (Note: The books may be borrowed from the library or purchased at Barnes and Noble and on Amazon.)
This does not mean that this is the only book you have to read this summer. We require you to read a book a month, but encourage you to read as much as you can. Keep track of any books that you have read (title, author, publishing details, and a recommendation explaining why (or why not) you think anyone should read the book) and bring it to school for sharing and also for credit. If you are reading a very long book for example, Harry Potter, then just log the pages read during that month and what occurred during those pages. You can then summarize the book at the end. Please note that this is a requirement, not a suggestion.
In addition to the reading assignment, we would like to have each new student know the addition and subtraction tables by rote and be working on their multiplication tables (1-9).
We look forward to seeing everyone in August and hearing about your summer adventures.
